Hey fella's I need to light the upper level on a bank and I have access through the gutter system. I am having trouble deciding on the proper fixture. I would like something low profile and in a MR design. I am afraid a standard uplight MR16/MR11 may be too high, consequently lookig rather odd during daylight hours.

What about laying an uplight out flat? How could you mount it around the gutter system/shingles?

Thanks for the help,
Steve

A bank (slope) or a Bank ($) ?

Your right......Bank $$. The side of this bank($$) that faces the main street has a gable end with another roof line about 3' higher and about 6' wider on either side. They peak in line with one another, one is simply wider and higher than the lower one. I am trying my best to explain....., I hope you all are with me.

If your goal is to uniformly illuminate the gable end the simplest solution is a series of fluorescent lamps in approprate weather-proof housings. These would be similar to fixtures used by sign companies. A smooth band of light requires that the ends of the fixtures overlap enough to cancel the shadows cast by the sockets.

I would hesitate to penetrate a roof with fasteners but you may be able to attach to the gutter supports. If weight is an issue it is possible to remote the ballasts but they would have to remain fairly close to the fixtures. You can avoid cold start problems by using T-5 fixtures.

This solution would require a licensed electrician. You may want to sub the job out to a local, well-equiped sign company.

To my knowledge there is no low profile linear low voltage equipment except strip lights which (unless doubled or tripled) would create a series of regular hot spots that would introduce a perhaps unwanted "rhythm" on the lighted surface. In any case the output would have to be doubled or tripled (each strip staggered) to be effective.

Not a simple task but the alternative would be HID pole or ground mounted spot/flood fixtures...expensive and obtrusive.

Just curious if you are familiar with the gutter brackets made by Unique. Standard 1/2" hole and can be used with their mini wall-washers (Stellers). Can't help much more, just learning second-story illumination tricks, myself.

A photo would be soooo helpful.
