I've worn corrective lenses since grade school. I have explored the option of contact lenses and laser vision correction but, since I would still wear glasses most of the time, rejected both options. Many, many times in the course of my outdoor career I've been saved from eye injury by my regular eyeglasses or sunglasses. Thrashing around in someone's shrubbery, walking into low tree branches not to mention the use of battery-powered tools can be an eye-threatening experience. Safety glasses (even with perfect vision) are a real necessity and good UV protection comes with them when you make the right selection. Our one mean 120v power tool (a grinder for creating wire channels) has eye, ear, dust and hand protection right in the tool kit. It is bad enough to be endangered by poison ivy (or oak), needle-sharp leaves (holly, etc.) and hornets, bees, wasps and ticks without putting yourself further at risk through neglect of basic safety equipment. Don't forget the sun hat and sunscreen.

What? Where do you do this?

Typically at the transition seam between the asphalt driveway and the concrete or brick walkway; also at the base of a step/walkway seam or expansion joint. The cut is never more than about 30"-36" and is caulked with silicone seal. If a bit of concrete dust is brushed onto the silicone before it sets up the seam is not detectable unless you know where to look. There are many fills and caulk available to match the existing seams or mortar joints but GE II silicone in the appropriate color (black, white, tan, clear) is mostly what we use.
