I moved this topic to the lamp section that was touched on a little in my last engineering section post. I have almost always used the GE precise MR line of lamps and until the posts on lamp heat I didn't even realize the real difference in aluminized vs. dichroic. I had been using the aluminized all along and didn't even really know. I have picked up maintenance on several installs that where by various other companies and I almost always take out a dichroic lamp when changing. I have also noticed that most fixtures that come with a lamp comes with a dichroic lamp. I understand the difference in the heat transfer, back vs. front, but are there other differences?

In bare lamp MR-16 and MR-11 interior applications such as cable or rail systems the dichroic lamps provide some "back light" while the aluminized reflector types do not. There are other posts in "engineering" on this topic.
