In August 2000 I was invited by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. to participate in a Standards Technical Panel (STP) in several lighting categories: UL 1598, Luminaires; UL 153, Portable luminaires; UL 1838, Low Voltage Landscape Lighting Systems; and UL 2108, Low Voltage Lighting Systems.

Of the 40 current members of this STP I am the only one listed as a "User" that actually designs, installs and services low voltage systems and low voltage landscape lighting systems. The other members of the STP are listed as "Producers", "Users" (all apparently specifiers, not end-users), or "General" in their roles.

Since these proposed UL Standards may have a profound effect on the future of low voltage lighting, I am inviting comments from other end-users in the categories listed above. This is an opportunity to have a voice in this process by making your interests known. It is my expectation that comments will be specific in nature and concise in their language. Please be aware that all posts on this topic will be public.
